Its A Small World After All Until a month ago, all of my macro shots were done with my Nikon 80-400 mm telephoto. I was hesitant to buy the Nikon 105 mm f/2.8 micro lens for several reasons...I was told I would have to use a tripod and rail system to overcome the breathing problem, the lens is heavy and its pricey. A month ago I bit the bullet and bought the 105 micro and am glad I did. I dont use a tripod with it. I have found if you shoot at the highest frame rate at least one of your shots will accomplish the focus you are going after. Additionally, at 105 mm and f/2.8 it is a consistently sharp portrait lens. Anyhow, thats my two cents. Nikon D600 105.0 mm f/2.8 ƒ/3.3 1/200 ISO 200
