Its Facebook Friday. Check out this crazy bat house( yes bats really use houses). We dont have this house in the store yet but it should be here by next week. Just a few facts about our Ohio bats. There are about 14 species found in Ohio, but the most common are the Big Brown bat(13 wingspan) and the Little Brown bat (10wing span). Bats are the only flying mammals. They use echolocation to find their food, and eat tens of thousands of insects a night. They roost in large colonies and come out just before sunset and just before dawn to forage for insects. The Big Brown bats hibernate in winter, sometimes in our attics, and wake about every 2 weeks. The Little Brown bats usually migrate to caves in Southern Ohio.
