Its Thanksgiving. What am I thankful for? Quite a bit. Theres a lot to be thankful for, but considering the rough road I choose 3 years ago, professionally(?)... I am thankful for the great managers and mentors Ive had. Beginning as a young band nerd (before being a nerd was a fashion statement) with Mary in 4th grade, I am thankful for the people I have stolen wisdom from. From band directors, to coworkers, to bosses. People like Tony Ronzello, Jeff Heidenburg, Mr Herring, Rebecca Hodel, Patrick Dennis, Scott Lang, Pablo Navarro, Frank Olguin, Rod Peloquin, Chris Johnson, Chris Geith, Doug Amos, Charlie Martel, Tuan Pham, Adeyinka Thomas, Lynn Paulson, Tony Baugess, Martin Bright, Jim Norton, Terry Rouhana, Dennis Scott, Elaine Pace, Mike Malamut, Ron Saenz, Jay Jackson, Jim Messina, Stu Preston, TJ.... and the sales guys- John Genet, Bob Wengel and Carl Haller, and finally Mr Miyagi, my boss at work. In meeting the standards, my confidence improves. At times, I feel like I can control the shop. They say When the student is ready, the teacher will appear. It would be easy to get frustrated by high standards and demanding bosses and then give up. But Im thankful for the mentors who let a 10 year old kid ask a Million questions a day, and then came back to work the next day so I can ask them a million more. Motivated people PICK their mentors or at minimum, choose friends they can learn from.
