Its about time people realise theres law and order. These are the words of Accra Mayor Alfred Oko Vanderpuije as he engages in an act of lawlessness himself. In this video which has gone viral in Ghana, the Mayor is heard further instructing whoever was filming to continue doing so because he wants everyone to see it. I am no lawyer yet. But I know from what is contained here that the driver was assaulted. He was manhandled as well. Except theres anything else we missed, the drivers offence was that he honked and was driving when others were cleaning. Now, I am not sure how this become an offence except if that part of town was a No Thoroughfare or No Honking zone. Lets even assume that this driver committed some offence of sorts, serious or otherwise. Questions that readily come to mind for me are; 1. What right does Oko Vanderpuije and his raging bandits have to manhandle or assault anyone? 2. What right does he have to order police officers on how to do their job? From the video it is obvious the policeman who did the hand cuffing was mere following instructions. Chale I understand as Mayor he has a job to do. But I know as well that he needs to do that job within the context of the law. Such gross show of power should not be entertained. Sadly, this is Ghana and Alfred Oko Vanderpuije knows it. That is why he can have the guts to engage in illegality and have it filmed.
