Its been a couple of weeks now, I think an update on my status is in order? . Since my last post, Ive had a minor tumor removed from inside my bladder, it was a stage 0 non-invasive tumor, removal is the complete treatment. No roots to worry about on this one. This past Monday, Shelley Meadows and I met with our Radiation Oncologist at Sarah Cannon Cancer Institute, where we spent several hours viewing a video about the various treatment options, then Dr. Gray came in and spent almost 2 hours talking, asking questions, and in detail, explaining what the treatment options were for my particular case. Each case if of course different. Weve decided on a treatment plan that includes 5 weeks of ERBT (Radiation from a focused source that moves around the body focusing the radiation specifically on the prostate), then follow that with the radioactive seeds planted in the prostate. The goal of this approach, is to kill off the exterior of the prostate, and get any roots that might be present on the border of the cancer (mine is adjacent to other organs, so a surgical removal would need to take part of those organs in the hopes of making sure to get 100.0 percent of the cancer, not easy to verify.).This first treatment will kill all of those tentacles that might be present. Then, when thats done from the outside, the seed implantation will kill from the inside out, getting whatever is remaining. The first part should be starting in about 4 weeks. In my last Urology visit, I was given a hormone shot that significantly lowers testosterone levels, Testosterone is what feeds the cancer. The shot, those effectively puts the cancer in remission (not growing), and actually will shrink the prostate. Dr. Gray wants to allow that to work for 6 weeks before starting treatment. Me, I feel fine, no ill effects of anything at this point. See all of you around wherever we meet. Thanks folks. Glenn Meadows
