Its been a difficult journey with my health this past year and a half. I suffer with B12 deficiency / Pernicious Anaemia. Never heard of it? You are not alone! Id never heard of it until I became really ill and was originally diagnosed with iron deficiency anaemia - we all know that one! Trips to endocrinology and rheumatology cleared my easily upset thyroid and gave me further diagnosis of vitamin D deficiency and fibromyalgia... Not one to sit back and let things beat me I began on a journey to discover more about my body. Ive now taken my health into my own hands, Ive looked at my diet Im a vegetarian thats very fussy, I was allergy tested and began a diet of new foods 😁 Pernicious means deadly so yes you can die from pernicious anaemia if its not treated suitably, I suffer from nerve damage, headaches, fatigue, brain fog, irritability, mood swings and many more. The list is long and Im not happy about suffering anymore. My daughter Tilly who is 15 is already showing many signs of pernicious anaemia, however the GP will not treat her (as 99% of GPs wont) as she is testing within range albeit at the lower end. Ranges are defined from people going to have these tests, B12 is not routinely tested therefore I and many other sufferers believe the ranges are set too low (180-914 here and lower in other counties) my result was 170 so only just under range, yet in japan they have a much higher range (500/700+) and here they have very few cases of Alzheimers, MS and dementia, all known to show significant improvement with regular B12 jabs. Most sufferers need to be at a level over 1000 to feel better! I have researched a lot and have taken medicating into my own hands, after just 2.5 weeks of additional medication (sublingual tablets) I have stopped the nerve damage - hopefully for good, Im less fatigued and hopefully other symptoms will also gradually diminish. Im writing this lengthy post to help educate those people who are offered anti-depressants, counselling and many other expensive services when they could possibly be suffering from an easy cheap to sort disease like mine! B12 costs about 55p per injection, yet it is not available over the counter in the uk, we have to purchase from abroad 😳 it is a water soluble vitamin, you cannot overdose as the body naturally pees out excess. There are various petitions to have this valuable vitamin available OTC in the uk. In the mean time sufferers suffer until they also research and find others with the same problem. Thank you for reading 😊
