Its been a weekend of excitement, frustration and most importantly reflection of the things that matter. As DJs playing live, our main source of satisfaction comes from engaging the dancefloor. However, we must never lose sight of who we are and become another generic, should we wish to become the change we envision for the better of the scene/society. I appreciated the chance to play an extended set to a young packed crowd at the recent foam party in Chameleon Lounge Club alongside Joshua as it gave us a chance traverse across the genres of dance music and educate them on electronic music. After the adrenalin of seeing half naked white asses spasming to our drops, and the gut-wrenching reminder of the ugly commercial aspect of the industry in having to accommodate to the horny owners request for RnB by revisiting my old collection of Snoop Dogg, I am grateful that I can see the big picture again. While one is satisfied with seeing some smiles or (tits) from the crowd, I cannot help but wonder, and know that there is another level of consciousness and gratification that we as DJs/musicians can offer to the crowd. It is a journey that I have only began to embark on, with so much more to discover and share. There are tremendous riches to be found when we go deeper, and to this end I am very thankful for The Spiffy Dapper for giving us the opportunity to freely express music from the soul in our bimonthly Deep End series. My Prognosis podcast is a series dedicated to this mission of deeper self discovery. I am resurfacing this episode to remind myself and everyone of the deep beauty that exists, and my resolve to further fuse spirituality and dance music together has never been greater after this weekend.
