Its been all quiet on the fire alarm front for a while, until last night, when 100s of people were woken at 3.20 and 4.30 by two fire alarms. No information was given at the time to assuage fears of concerned residents. Building mgmt havent issued any info today about it in public places, but they told me that it was due to a leak affecting the fire alarm wiring. So, leaking water makes the fire alarm system fail. Marvellous. I was told the DCD (fire service) was called by some - understandably - concerned resident, and the DCD supposedly took out the main alarm wiring, leaving the building without a fire alarm system, which was then being fixed today. Clearly a good idea to stop false alarms, but is that really the most advisable method? No word as to whether the system has been fixed or not. Id recommend anyone with a spare minute to ask the BC building mgmt about where were at with the system. If we dont ask, they wont know the residents care.
