Its been almost a month since that terrible day when we lost our best friend Kane. This has not been easy on Karen and I at all, not to mention Bella and Monty, who have not been eating much and have been really out of sorts. Both Karen and I have lost a lot of animals over the years, but we both agree, this one was the hardest. We had too much time, love, work, money and attention put into Kane to lose him so young. He was like a family member and a best friend and we treated him like another human. Kane was a truly special dog, right from the start. An hour does not go by that we dont think about him and miss him. He was such a huge part of our lives and since we lost him, nothing is the same around here. We are still very much in the grieving process over his loss. He will always be really special to both of us....always. With our sadness came a feeling emptiness in our home and anyone who has been here since we lost Kane can probably see it on our faces. We needed to fill that empty space in our lives and heart and needed to honor Kanes life somehow, no matter how short it was. So for the past couple of weeks we have been spending a little time wandering around the web, looking at Great Dane photos and stories and having some laughs, sharing and remembering some of the funny things that made Kane so special to us. In the process of hopping around on the internet, we saw a little Dane puppy looking for a home. His face looked familiar, he had those same eyes that get you every time. He also had a name.....guess what it was.....Caine! Spelled different, but still an eerie coincidence. I called the person who had this puppy and asked for more information and some photos if she could share any. When we saw the photos, it was love at first site. Not only that, but one of the photos was a photo of this little guys mom......guess what, she was wearing a boot, just like our Kane! 300 miles away, sight unseen, we had to do it. We would like to introduce you all to someone else very special today. Please meet Caine! We think it only fitting that we leave his name just as it is. Through him we honor our lost friend and fill our home with the sounds of puppy footies running across the floor again. We needed him and he needed us. We look forward to sharing his life with all of you.
