Its been awhile, but heres a funny depot story. . . If someone wants us to install a door, first they pay $30 for a measure. The guy who does the measurements in Arlington/Falls Church area is named Steve. Ive never met him, but Ive spoken to him dozens of times, getting clarification on things. Hes got a thick New York accent, so one must imagine that when I repeat what he said yesterday. . . A French lady had come in a month ago with her mother who is from France, and does not speak English. They wanted the door installed before the mother returned to France. For some reason, there was an issue with the measurement, and the lady cancelled the whole thing. Then the department head called her and convinced her to continue. There was a whole bunch of back and forth, and finally, the lady called yesterday. I answered the phone, though she wanted to talk to the department head (a new guy). He wasnt available, so I helped her out. She wants the door installed this Saturday. . . she was promised that it would be done. . . Anyway, I had to call the measure guys boss, and then her, and then I called Steve. I asked if he remembered what the deal was. George (his boss) is dealing with that. He went out there, so you should talk to him. I did, but wanted to get your take on it. Is that the French lady? Yes! You know what, Lar, I called her multiple times, and she says I never called her. These people lie, Lar, they lie! Yes, I know. [I saw the notes that indicated he left several messages.] So, i never heard back from her, so I went out there anyway. Her mother was there, and the lady doesnt speak a word a English. What am i supposed to be the f---in United Nations? Whats wrong with people? Speak English, for gawds sake! She cant tell me what they want, and her father gets on the phone and he barely speaks any English either. Its ridiculous, Lar. I should add that he went on for another two minutes along those lines. . . Yes, Steve, yes it is. and HiLarryous!!
