Its been awhile since I had a good rant - I didnt know I had it in me until one of my friends posted an article on Christianitys version cheesy pop star. Girls, no swooning over those pearly whites. Heres my beef (not in the order of importance): 1. As a teacher of the Word, he is held to a higher standing in rightly dividing scripture - 2 Timothy 2:15. This is not the first time hes flubbed the Bible or shown a basic lack of knowledge on theological questions. A little study would be highly beneficial to him. 2. His teachings have reached many, BUT due to his lack of study much of what he teaches is erroneous and shallow. Which leads to the fruit we should judge him and his ministry: 1. Embittered hearts towards a God who did not reward their faithfulness to Osteens teaching. 2. Guilt ridden Christians who believe their lack of prosperity is due to a sin so secret even they cant figure it out. 3. Arrogant Christians who believe financial success proves they are Gods favorite children. 4. Christians whose faith crumbles at the first sign of adversity because it only works on Friday or when you are living your best life now. 5. Mostly a lack of repentance among the followers who are not confronted with the truth of Gods holiness. By claiming the title of Christian he has placed himself in a position of accountability and submission to all Christians. It means that we have a right and duty to address errors in his teaching and conduct so that the whole world isnt led astray by this personality cult. He proclaims his message publicly so correction must also be public for any practices application. Finally, any person in leadership is and should be held to a higher standard. Grace is to be given, but to whom do we show grace the leader in error? Or those he injures in his folly?
