Its been nearly 10 months since this mermaid last surfed because the sea witch suggested that I place a piece of magic seaweed in my pocket to turn my fin into human legs so to give my injured back a chance to heal. I acquiesced. So. I. Am. Healing... Though my back is still not 100%, and Im not sure if it ever will be, Im a lot better than when I was when I was completely incapacitated back in March. Meditation, yoga, chiropractic care, massage therapy, Foundation Training, loving family and friends, and a nearly stress-free zone, have been of paramount importance to where I am now: walking. OMG. I am walking again! So freaking grateful. One of the most important of lessons Ive learned since Ive been out of the water is that Ive been able to lovingly take my surfing skills with me. You know how you know where to paddle at just the right moment to that one elusive spot in the water to catch that wave thats calling to you - because you can feel it, ( or maybe Dolphin is cajoling, Come over here to catch this wave!), or knowing when its time to paddle back to shore because Wind whispered ever so gently in your ear, Paddle back in now. and you listened, and you are glad you listened because you got out just in time to avoid Her gale-force winds? Then with your board still in tow, you look over your shoulder from your shelter on the beach to the enormity of the storm, and your mouth is gaping? Or when youre sitting out in the line up, and Ocean commands, Paddle out - NOW. and since you immediately obeyed and furiously paddled further out, you avoided getting mercilessly clobbered by that huge, scary a$$ set of waves that appeared out of nowhere?... Surfing has taught me to continuously trust my instincts in everything that I do. So, essentially, Ive been surfing even though I havent been surfing. Im not saying that Im always right, but its been liberating trusting my intuition in everything I do. It saves me every single time... One day, Ill be back standing by the shore with my surfboard in tow and smiling at the sea. Its a beautiful day. Then Ill flick away the charmed seaweed thanking it, and when I do, meet me there... xo,g
