Its been so thoroughly smashed that a Tacloban reboot can only make it better. So even as relief efforts are still underway, even as things begin shifting to a recovery agenda, as Jun Sepe has willed it, here are initial thoughts -- Solar for Tacloban, to ensure they are not dependent on a grid and that Tacloban is energy independent. Solar powered community centers where collective recovery efforts are planned and undertaken and where charging for mobile phones and community computers can be done. Rational routes where electric public vehicles can ply for Tacloban, so drivers earn more, which helps in their recovery, even as it allows Tacloban to reboot with far less pollution. Public art, great huge murals and sculptures everywhere about people like Cpl Anjanette Obligado who breast-fed other babies, and the countless unsung heroes whose efforts inspired the world - the deployment of art on a massive scale as a way to reuse the commons and to project common dreams to rise and be better. And as Jefe Jose Enrique Soriano called it, set up Freds in Tacloban so the weary will have the grooviest proper watering hole in town. Lets make this happen.
