Tambuwal: APC Reps threaten to impeach Jonathan Members of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in the House of Representatives yesterday threatened to commence impeachment process against President Goodluck Jonathan if he does not leave Speaker Aminu Waziri Tambuwal alone. They said they were fully prepared to go to any length to defend Tambuwal against the treatment being meted on him after his defection to the APC. The APC lawmakers have equally gone to court to forestall any move to reconvene the House from its current 5-week break without the consent of the Speaker. The House had last Tuesday proceeded on a 5-week break to reconvene on December 3, after Tambuwal had announced his defection to the APC, saying it was to give members time to participate in their parties primaries. But there were reports that the presidency and the PDP were pressurising Deputy Speaker Emeka Ihedioha and other PDP principal officers in the House to reconvene this week so as to begin an impeachment process against Tambuwal. The PDP has 188 members, while APC has 160 lawmakers in the House. Based on the constitution, two-third of members signatures, which is 240 lawmakers, are required to impeach a presiding officer.
