Its hard to win battles when one doesnt know who the enemy is. In our fight to stop cruelty we often do not perceive who is behind almost all of it. We can identify the Conservative legislators (99% of whom are Republicans) who vote against animal protection laws and take political bribes from the agriculture lobby. We know which Congressmen, Senators, Governors, and state legislators support puppy mills, wolf killings, ag-gag laws, horse slaughter, rodeos, circuses, trapping, etc. But they would never be in office if it werent for Republican voters. Our friends. Neighbors. Co-workers. For all practical purposes, they might as well walk down the street shooting puppies and killing kittens. They are doing their same with their votes. We all look back on the citizenry of Nazi Germany and wonder how they could have permitted Hitlers atrocities. We ascibe it to ignorance rather than malice. Republican voters cannot plead ignorance. Their votes are malicious. Their cruelty is intentional. They know what they are voting for, and what Republicans in office will do. Guns, taxes, bigotry, descrimination, fetuses, border fences, are all more important to them than animals. Republicans are our enemies.
