Its interesting. Certainly racial diversity could be improved in Hollywood. As for the Oscars, this is only the second time in 20 years that no black people have been nominated for prestigious recognition. With blacks only being 14% of the population, thats hardly a pattern of racism, especially with the movie Selma being nominated for best picture. The NBA however has had over 70% of their MVP winners be black. I am sure in the interest of fairness, Reverend Al Sharpton will call for a protest of the NBA next. Racism, or at least a lack of black cultural diversity in Hollywood is most likely a real thing. I have been told it is by old friends intimately familiar with the subtle nuances of Hollywood, and I have no reason to doubt their observations and opinions. Fixing an awards show, just to create a false impression of diversity if diversity does not in fact exist, is counterproductive. Instead, an effort should be made to promote actual diversity in a real, and productive manner. Calling for blacks to be nominated because they are black, cheapens the incredible accomplishments of blacks that have actually won awards based on their own merit. Denzel Washington didnt win his Oscars for diversity reasons. He won because he is a freaking incredible actor.
