Its my pleasure to (finally) introduce a new member of the SAAP - TopicsExpress

Its my pleasure to (finally) introduce a new member of the SAAP family! Everyone, meet CHEWIE! CHEWIE is an 8-9 year old lab mix, and is just as sweet as can be. Chewie spent several months in a Kentucky shelter before she came to SAAP. Other than that, I know relatively little about her past- but I do know she has a very bright future ahead of her! When I first got Chewie, she was so scared and shy (see the first two pictures), and all she wanted to do was sleep by the door and hide out in the kitchen. :( She would even scurry away sometimes when I got near her. It took a bit of coaxing to get her out the door for a walk, but eventually she began to get excited when I would take her leash out. She walks slowly, but loves her time outside. After about a week she moved into the living room, but still kept her distance. It wasnt until the end of week two (just this past week) that she came up to me to get a scratch behind her ears, and to lick my hand. :D This Friday I took Chewie to Lisa Kelly at Dirty Hairys, and she is a brand new dog! Chewie is loving life and just wants a family of her own to keep her warm and comfy! Chewie is quiet as a mouse all day and all night. In fact, the only time I have heard her bark is when a much larger, energetic dog tried to get her to wrestle . . . she was not having it! But she gets along with my neighbors (male) Chihuahua, and my (female) Australian Cattle Dog. As long as other dogs are not hyper or bothersome, she will along just fine with them! Chewie seems uninterested in cats, and gets a bit excited when she sees squirrels, but does not pull at all on her leash. Chewie is also completely potty trained, and will sniff the front door if she needs to be let out (I take her out at least three times a day to do her business). Chewie is also good with kids, but scares easily at sudden, quick movements; a house with older, calm children would be best. Anyone would be SO LUCKY to spend time with this girl during her golden years! Chewie is so low maintenance, so sweet, and so perfect that she will make a great addition to any family willing to take walks a little slowly and keep a pile of blankets on the floor for her to sleep on (she refused the orthopedic bed I bought her, but seems to love the flatter bed liners given to her by Chris Erikson, with a blanket on top). Charlotte (my dog) and I just love her to pieces, and I know someone else out there will too! PS- She looks much larger in pictures than she really is. I am guessing she weighs about 40 lbs.
