Its not often that BIG opportunities come along for real connection and dialogue come along in our democracy. For the record I would not class our national elections as being a BIG opportunity. About 13 months ago Joe Citizen was handed the chance to reject a patently stupid and most probably corrupt system of tolling Gauteng highways. The majority rose to the challenge and sent a strong message to government. Today the ANC get a chance to say that we listen to our people and with the release of the Gauteng e-toll report announce a radical shift in policy. They should abolish it and implement a fuel levy. Its the right thing to do and its the most sensible thing to do. We need cash to keep Eskom afloat and a fuel levy will IMMEDIATELY stop the Sanral hemorrhaging. They can score some brownie points AND solve a huge headache but will they show the same courage and intelligence that Joe Citizen has shown or will they did their heels in and in so doing dig deeper in to the hole that they put themselves in? I await the announcement with keen anticipation.
