Its now today exactly 25 ( 29th December 1989) years since Maine Pyra Kiya was released and like the 1990 film Ashiqui: Surat Barjatyas debut film Maine Pyar Kiya in 1989, has songs that one can hear again and again. Salman Khans second film after the disastrous first film Biwi Ho To Aaisi had a freshness and naivete with a slim body ( with chest hair!) that was not pumped up with steroids: playing the Poor Little Rich Boy to the dewy-fresh Bhagyashree in a short lived career, the film was cheesy with lot of dialogues that sound corny but with a ring of truth in them. Sample 1 Dosti Ke Usul main: No sorry, no thank you ( perhaps a nod to Erich Segals classic Love Story and something we can still identity in a friendship) Sample 2 Ek Ladka aur ek Ladki kabhi dost nahin ban sakte. Remember the pigeons signifying Pristine pure love ( well turns impure in the terrace song Mere Rang Main with Bhagyashree showing all she has to her boyfriend) , the moon walk dance by Salman replicated towards the climax by the heroine, the Title song Aate Jaate through a James Bond Like silhouette dreamy sequence, Salmans bare chested look as Prem: the devoted lover, the ideal son and boyfriend with a Friends cap that sold in thousands after the films release, her lover waiting nights to serve him dinner and garam chai and the wonderful 10 minutes Antakshari song that revived the old age ritual during weddings. A tender love story that starts off as a friendship that convincingly turns into a love story with a touching scene when Salman Khan works as a manual labourer to prove his worth to Bhagyashrees father. A highlight when after a fight, Salman Khan agrees to work again to replace the desired amount of money when the notes have been spoilt due to the rains in a fight, without batting an eye lid. Listen to the one of the ten songs in the film that is my favourite: the title song with a choreography that is so natural and very different from electric-shot jerks like movements of todays dances.
