Its time to sign off. Today on this page I have found one old friend Ive missed for years and news that one of the best people I have recently come to know is unwell. Those two things stand out most of all in a whole day and part of that day was spent doing the deep work I do on issues of race and poverty and that work fades when placed next to them. The person Ive missed and the person Ive recently come to know are two more souls that have made and keep making me more whole. In both cases I think to myself that I have done precious little to deserve either of them or any of you. Tonight I leave you with something the people, like these two people, inspire me to be to the best of my ability, everyday I get to spend on this earth in their company. - Tattered If you walked the length of this tattered soul, You’d see a life etched in conflict and folded in hope. That is all that I am and all that I have been. I have seen so much gladness near consumed by the madness, Of the trades I have practiced in defense of a dream. I’ve been wounded and weary… Left for dead unforgiving… But I’d risk everything I’ve been to help this world to be more whole. I’ve been lifted by laughter at the point of disaster, By the people inside my life, in pursuit of a dream. A dream of mercy and justice… Kindness and compassion… And I would give everything I’ve been to make this dream a living thing.
