It’s a good lesson in how sometimes you need to find out how people themselves feel about issues before getting worked up on their behalf. Melissa McCarthy seems to have genuinely loved the coat and it is ridiculous that our idea of fighting back about body hatred means everyone showing an equal amount of skin, as opposed to everyone being accepted for how they choose to dress. Thanks, well-meaning bloggers, but no thanks I love this. The message extends far past just body image issues: we sure do tend to get very worked up about a lot of things without necessarily being justified about the concerns. Another example could be messages like the pain of working out is nothing compared to the pain of being fat. Sure, some people had/have a harder time in a bigger body (physically, mentally, emotionally etc), but not everyone does. Some are just dandy, thanks. Assuming that being fat is somehow painful completely disregards and minimizes those who live in fat bodies and are not only fine, but freaking rockin em (feel compelled to clarify: Im using fat as a adjective. Hopefully you know me well enough to know that I dont subscribe to the belief that the things we associate with fat as a negative are universal truth. Total bullshizz. #HAES). Sometimes, its just worthwhile to get every side of the story before freakin out. Just sayin. :)
