Ive been going to 1st parish for a couple months now and found a pretty solid community. The congregation tends towards, but not exclusive to, privileged middle class white educated liberals but is pluralistic and diverse in spiritual backgrounds. Its a safe space for folks of different backgrounds and identities There are lots of Folks concerned about social and environmental justice issues, and rather politically engaged. Like all institutions there is an emphasis on self preservation or that egoic separation, defining self in opposition to others(creed based religious institutions, uneducated And apathetic masses) from ones community for the sake of branding and financial existence. The sermon uses inclusive language do not assume the existence of any thing like god or spirit while engaging these concepts in various direct or analogous ways using science, poetry, music, song, philosophy, meditation, prayer, foci/symbols, optional rituals and myths from all world religions. The community is very solid. Im a Christian that doesnt feel at home in Christian churches. I find my Christian views more at home here. Only thing missing is more of a service based ministry which folks are receptive to and im hoping to help organize( and can use your help making awesome things happen) Ive found many political allies and friends there. Many I knew before going to church. Some really powerful and beautiful people doing amazing work in the broader community. A little microcosm hidden in plain sight in the heart of the city. Check it out Recommend Anyone looking for some weekly philosophical and or spiritual social exchange to join us at 10 at the big church between city hall and the library on congress street this or any sunday.
