Ive been ruminating over space, time, gravity, and the notion of time travel a lot lately (yeah, I know... hard to believe, isnt it?). Im reminded of a review that was posted over at the Magonia Blog, which had been fairly critical of my book, The UFO Singularity, and the espoused ideas in relation to what I called temporally evasive technologies. These, for the layman, I do think could be expressed more simply as time travel, in some sense at least, although the concept is really a bit more complex than the sort of thing were used to seeing in the movies and on TV. Below this post, Ill have a link to that review, for reference, but heres the relevant quote excerpted for now: Mathematician and physicist John D. Barrow has remarked: Time travel is the thinking mans UFO. However, Hankss ideas on the subject dont show much coherent thinking, as his awareness of some of the time travel paradoxes should make him realise that the notion of UFOs as manifestations of of time travellers is nonsense. I actually discuss many of these paradoxes specifically in my book, which came to mind again this morning when I read the following headline: Time Travel Simulation Resolves Grandfather Paradox”. Heres the link: scientificamerican/article/time-travel-simulation-resolves-grandfather-paradox/ I think the idea here, rather than to say Ha! See, I told you so, is to acknowledge that our fundamental ideas about space-time (including those of Sir Stephen Hawking, and other physicists mentioned in the article above) are incomplete. Were still seeking answers, and to hold on to outdated theories with hope of proving or disproving this or that simply doesnt do us any good. Weve got to become deeper thinkers on these subjects, and weve got to allow more intellectual honesty, rather than high-brow elitism that is purely thought-stifling in its negativism. Will we ever truly solve the riddles of space, time, and travel to points between past, future, and present? Who knows... maybe well figure it out with time. For now, as promised, heres a link to the Magonia review, for those who would like to see it: pelicanist.blogspot/2013/02/very-singular.html
