Ive been saying for a few weeks that the current series of Doctor Who feels like fan fiction rather than an official release. But I think I can express that better: I think the writers are indulging in heavy handed themes whose agenda is not that of the show. In fan fiction, that occurs because the authors are venting their frustrations; exploring ideas they know would never come up in the real show. Its a form of catharsis, and the audience accept this because its cathartic for them as well, having lived with the same frustrations. ...but thats fan fiction. Its not so acceptable in the actual show. My theory is that the writers are in limbo, waiting for Clara to go away before they put things in motion. To some extent, its open season now. Anything goes. Its the liberating freedom of nihilism that brings us those hallmarks of fan fiction. In the real show. But, again, there was a plan. And there isnt now. And thats really distracting. Ill explain in the next comment.
