Ive been struggling this week as we all do from time to time; post holiday blues; too much work sitting on my desk; feeling a bit homesick; confused about love … privileged complaints I know but nonetheless enough to make the attainment of happiness and contentment a bit of challenge this week. Reaching out to friends often helps but I have found solitude more helpful this week. However today rummaging through the internet I was compelled to revisit an old friend; Fred Rogers. Americans will know him and others might not. Nevertheless like Maya Angelou this man is one of the best examples of what humanity can produce. And throughout a challenging and difficult childhood this man made feel loved because EVERYDAY … he told me ‘I like you just the way you are’ and I believed him. And for me ever since I really understood the phrase ‘What would Jesus Do’, it always really meant, ‘What would Mr Rogers do’; something I still ask myself when I get upset or when I feel as I have the last few days.
