Ive been thinking about how closed captions have enhanced TV viewing for Dick and me. I dont think either of us has much hearing loss yet, but so often the snappy dialogue on our favorite shows would be hard to catch and we kept having to rewind and still couldnt get it (West Wing, anyone?). Now we automatically turn on the captions for Criminal Minds, CSI, Greys Anatomy, Scandal (especially!) and even Modern Family, and dont miss a thing. We dont use it for news or sports, where the captioning is so delayed, incomplete and comically inaccurate to be horribly distracting. But for a scripted show or a Netflix movie, captions are professionally done, timely and complete, and weve grown dependent on them! So does anyone else do this just because they can?
