Ive been thinking about my time in Wendover and especially the games we played in the playground of the school by the clock tower in the early 1960s. I wonder how many of theses are played by children today?!! Some of the games we played with a lot of other children were:- The big ship sails on the ally ally oh; I sent a letter to my love; There was a lovely Princess; Please Mr Crocodile; Whats the time Mr Wolf; Oranges and Lemons, In and out the dusky bluebells. Skipping games were popular:- I like Coffee I like tea; Blue bells cockle shells, eavy ivy over; Teddy Bear Teddy Bear and many more.. The boys in the playground enjoyed British Bulldog until it was banned; Pile on, which consisted of one poor child flattened on the playground and the other boys making a pile on top of him; and of course huge ice slides on the back playground in winter! I can also remember making a long line of children and shouting ee-i-adio Spurs for the cup - would have been about 1962 or 63!!
