Ive been thinking about this a bit and this seems to be the group most suited to getting it off my chest. Theres a line of thinking pervasive at both faires and in the world of reenactment that charity shops like Goodwill absolutely WILL have pewter or pottery or woodware, etc. suitable and appropriate for historical portrayals. Beyond the notion that objects are accepted as correct by virtue of their material rather than their design/shape/form, its one of those things which I think we turn a blind eye to. Certainly sometimes there are gems out there, but I think we should not expect to find things in mundane shops.
