Ive decided to pin this image here for a while because it so nicely says something that is VITALLY important in small communities. If we dont THINK CAREFULLY before we choose where we shop, we are only hurting ourselves. Now, a MOM and POP business CAN include a franchise brand because the people that own the business live, work and shop locally too. But, when a multi-franchise owner that is based elsewhere sets up in town it is often to take profits that offset the losses they experience in their other franchises. The ultimate impact of this in our town is that we lose. In NZ there is a town called Arrowtown (just outside of Queenstown) that has only privately owned and privately branded businesses. It is an AMAZING experience being there - so many visitors and an incredible pull together community vibe.
