Ive done a lot of research over the past 4 years during the time I have ran this page. A long time ago I came to a conclusion that our community has design flaws when looking at it from a planning perspective, this affect your quality of life. Most solutions are quite simple and do not come with a high price tags. The way the majority of our neighborhoods have been designed, Mission promotes a sedentary lifestyle where we are disconnected from one another, are forced to commute and live in these bubbles that have been created around us. Most of us have moved to Mission not knowing anything about the town and it was the only place in the Lower Mainland which was affordable. We moved here with a big dream/vision of providing the best lives possible and raising our kids in a home with a yard, a dog, going for hikes, meeting new people, teaching our kids how to hunt and fish ect ect. However, reality sunk in you work out of town like 3/4 of us to pay your mortgage and have little quality time to spend with your loved ones. On the weekends you try to catch up on housework, may have time to hang out with your friends and when you do spend the time with your family youre exhausted and therefore are not the best person that you can be, creating tension in the household. Whether you like it or not, its a cycle that many of us are stuck in. You are a Missionite, but what is a Missionite? Many of us know very little about this amazing place we all call home, nor do we get to experience it. For some of you the only place you receive information about the community is from this very page. I created MV 4 years ago in an attempt to strengthen the bond to one another in our town and appreciated there was a need for something like this. My goal was to make you feel like you belong in Mission, to connect you to the other residents and that your voice is heard as well as matters, I feel I have succeeded, but there is much more we can do. The way cities and town are built has an enormous effect on lifestyles and health. We are personable, warm, caring, social creatures and need this to evolve and grow. When cities are built where we dont walk, dont have proper places to interact, a very cold place is built. The fact is nothing is more simple and cheap than making towns which provide better for people. To have a successful proud community it takes thought, as well as a researched and organized action plan. Over the next month starting January 1, I will present ideas to make Mission more livable, inevitable and how to better your quality of life in the place that we all call home. Have a wonderful day, Artur
