Ive let it stew for over a day before posting about it, but I had something interesting happen to me Friday night. I was leaving a friends house at 11:00-ish. When on my way towards home [traveling South on Scenic] I saw two temporary signs up in the road. I could read the one closest sign to me - INCIDENT AHEAD. Several hundred yards ahead of me were multiple sets of flashing lights. To avoid the incident, I turned into the first street I saw to left, made a multi-point turn around, and went North on Scenic to go towards Chestnut Expressway where I could head West [as I wouldve had I been able to reach Sunshine taking my original route]. Within moments, a motorcycle and its driver [wearing a brightly-colored reflective vest and a white helmet] were on my ass. At that point I assume that the driver was a member of law enforcement - and that the incident was in all actuality a checkpoint. Sh*t. I also know that I am TERRIBLE around authority figures - and that at this point I was most likely already seen as suspicious for avoiding interaction - but I continued on my way home. Still assuming that the operator of this motorcycle was a member of law enforcement, I guess my plates were ran over radio or driving appeared [rightfully] to be that of one who was not impaired, as the operator of said motorcycle abruptly performed an illegal U-turn behind me and headed back towards the incident. No, I never was pulled over - nothing bad happened. I stopped at a gas station and got me a soda - and went home. Saturday morning I read that there was indeed a [sobriety] CHECKPOINT in that location. Again, nothing happened. But damn it, Springfield Police, put different signs up for that sh*t! Again, I perform miserably around authority figures - especially dumb jocks with guns who are overly aggressive, trained to ask questions to put citizens on edge, and show no respect. Though not impaired, had I been pulled over - and given a hard[er] time for altering my route, things wouldve ended poorly for me. Have the sign[s] read Checkpoint Ahead. How f*cking hard is that?
