Ive mentioned this before but have to say it again before I tell - TopicsExpress

Ive mentioned this before but have to say it again before I tell another story. I have my beliefs system which is mine and I dont share religious posts or comment on them because my belief system is a very personal and private thing to me and I do it in my own way. I do not preach religion nor do I accept being preached to. That doesnt mean Im not open to logical and respectful discussion. I will tell you this: I was raised Lutheran, I attended Sunday school and confirmation and was confirmed. Ive read the Bible cover to cover at least once and several excerpts many times. I raised my sons Lutheran and they attended Sunday school and were confirmed. I do not attend church and dont see that that means anything in a persons faith one way or the other. That is the extent of my religious life that I will ever speak to anyone about. Now on to the rest of my story. The disbelief in evolution: I wasnt appalled, surprised, disgusted or bothered in anyway to find this out because I already knew that this thought process exists in the world. I simply find it hard to believe that anyone can not believe in the evolutionary process due to all the scientifically proven evidence to its existence. Now, there are millions that believe in God and millions that dont and that is their right to believe as they wish. I also respect their beliefs, no matter which way they believe. There is a difference between respecting someone and their beliefs and agreeing with them. I respect many different beliefs and opinions without agreeing with them. There are many that believe in God and refuse to believe in the evolutionary process. My question is: Why do so many think that the evolutionary process and God cant both exist at the same time? I will reiterate, If you do or dont believe in one or the other or either, I respect your belief system. That Does Not mean I have to agree with it. And I do not have to become abusive in my conversation with you about it to be able to discuss it. Everything in the Universe evolved and continues to evolve. Mankind did not just pop out of the ground thousands of years ago looking as we do today. We evolved. There is proof that at one time the human race was larger in physical size because it had to be to survive. Technology today has taken a lot of the work load away so the human race on average is getting smaller. There is fossil evidence that some animals legs evolved into fins so they could leave the land and go into the seas to survive and the same evidence exists in the reverse. Plants have ridden the waves to new geographical areas and ended up in far different climates than they originated in and they evolved in order to survive the climate change. The gravitational pull of stars has caused space dust and rocks to come together and combine into a mass to become planets. Tortoises have traveled hundreds if not thousands of miles and taken up residence on differing land masses from where they originated and evolved into a quite different animal to survive their new habitat. That is the Survival of the fittest hypothesis that has been proven. Everything in the universe has evolved and continues to evolve. I cannot understand how someones faith in God can make them discard proven fact of the evolutionary process. It is written that God asked us to believe in him by faith without proof and I find nothing wrong with that, but Ive never seen where it is said that he asked anyone to disbelieve in scientifically proven fact. One person even said there is no half man half ape fossils. Well of course there isnt. Evolution takes place over thousands and most often millions of years. It isnt a one day ape, one day half man and half ape and then one day man, each one being thousands or millions of years apart when this huge change suddenly happens on a specific day. Just as that doesnt happen in the universe with planets, galaxies, stars or with plants or animals. Even non-living things evolve. Coal evolves into diamonds. Wood can evolve into rock as petrified wood. Long dead plant and animal remains evolve into oil. I cant possibly be so obnoxious as to believe that mankind was spared the evolutionary process and just popped out of the ground one day thousands of years ago looking exactly as we do today. Our earth has evolved from one mega continent known as Pangea into several continents through volcanic activity along tectonic plates. For someone to tell me the evolutionary process does not exist because it hasnt been scientifically proven is as ludicrous as telling me that my truck doesnt run on gas because it hasnt been scientifically proven. Im no expert on religion nor am I an expert on the evolutionary process but there is faith to believe in God and scientific proof to believe in the evolutionary process. Why is it that someones faith in God can bring them to dispute scientific fact. Again, Im no expert in either field but I dont recall ever being told by people wiser than myself or reading that God said that humans were spared from the evolutionary process and we are not to believe in it no matter how proven the hypothesis is. I would like to be given an intelligent and logical explanation as to why so many have allowed their faith in God to make them disbelieve in the evolutionary process. And to point me to where in any written word of any gospel God has told them not to believe in the scientifically proven evolutionary process. From my knowledge of the written record of religion and gospel, God asked us to believe in him through faith rather than him having to give us proof of his existence but I dont recall anywhere where he said do not believe in scientifically proven fact or the evolutionary process. Here is an extremely simplified example of evolution. Someone is paralyzed from the waist down and remains in a wheel chair for years and years. Their leg muscles will atrophy and their legs will waste away from non-use. That is a form of evolution for everyone to see and it cannot be disputed. I cannot be so confused as to believe that the evolutionary process doesnt go much much deeper than that. I would like for anyone to give me reasonable and logical explanations why faith in God must result in the non-belief in the scientifically proven process of evolution. I would be happy to discuss the subject with anyone that would like to do so in a logical and respectful manner, if in fact there are any takers on the subject. Through calm, respectful, logical and reasonable discussion we can all learn things from one another. I will appreciate anyones comments, suggestions, or beliefs on the topic so long as they can do it respectfully and not demand that I must believe in their view or otherwise burn in hell or be told Im ignorant to facts. I will not respond to any comments that do not use reason, logic and respectfulness. I also understand that this can be a very touchy subject to some and may not get many comments if any at all. I have even spoken to several ministers, priests and the like that believe in both God and the evolutionary process so I wonder about and want to know why someones faith in God has given them such a steadfast disbelief in the evolutionary process that they can dispute proven facts. Please explain to me why in your view, God and the evolutionary process cannot exist simultaneously. And do it with respect and at least somewhat factual evidence that proves your view rather than because supposedly at some time someone said so. Thank you in advance to anyone that took the time to read my post whether they respond or not. I hope everyone has a wonderful day! :)
