Ive noticed when a show gets 3/4 way thru its run writers get lazy and rebooted some scripts. Even Frazier was guilty of this . Some shows that never jumped the shark or got lazy in script writing and maintained high standards IMHO were most of the MTM shows . Bob Newhart (Chicago) /Car 54 /Sgt.Bilko /Taxi Barney Miller /Dick Van Dyke show. It seems the earlier shows were better written .by late 80s the jokes were dumber /simpler & cheap shots . (Benson) (weird because Soap was so good) All the MTM shows were well written.As good and funny as Redd Fox was even his show retooled some scripts. Danny Arnold self cancelled Barney Miller when the writers had a hard time with ideas. Ever notice the last year of a shows run and they fall apart? I loved Night Court but last season got weird. I loved Mad About You but last 2 seasons made a weird turn and got serious . Its sad. BTW ever notice spin offs almost never work (except Frasier and the Jeffersons) also notice big screen movies never translate to TV.shows? (I can only think of 3- MASH -Odd Couple - and Clint Eastwoods movie Coogans Bluff was retooled to become Dennis Weavers McCloud) can you think of others?? (TV movie to TV show doesnt count-Waltons) Dukes of Hazard was actually inspired by a TV movie with a different name and retooled to become the cartoonish horrible TV series and was in reality inspired by a real set of cousins and one of the principles was a real actor and was suposed to portray himself in the tv series but couldnt mAke the first filming as he was co starring in the Johnny Cash movie Coweta County TV movie .Thats how he lost out on his own life story!
