Understandably, there appears to be some confusion in our energy and light-touch practitioner community (Reiki, Eden Energy Medicine, Healing Touch, Therapeutic Touch, JSJ, IGM and so on) regarding licensure. So, here are some good to knows: 1) The law does not what affect our community, the regulations do, and the Attorney G’s opinion (issued at the October 23rd, 2013 Massage & Bodywork Meeting) was a restatement of the law. 2) The AGs whole opinion was not made public, but a portion was (see excerpt) which indicates that if a practitioner does not intend to apply structured touch to affect the soft tissue of the body when practicing hands-on, then a massage license is not required. 3) The most important thing for our energy and light-touch practitioner community to understand at this juncture is to avoid using the words acupressure and massage (when talking to clients, in marketing materials and intake forms). To learn more about compliance, go to naturalhealingalliance.org. The NHA invites practitioners and organizations to work together for the health freedom of the whole community and for the practitioners who serve them.
