Ive said it before and I will say it again, unless the government puts our own people first and invests in our young people and into our industrial neglected heartlands of the Midlands,North of England,South Wales and central Scotland then we as a nation are doomed. Prime Ministers visit to Oxfordshire car parts factory prompted warning Britain must say no to immigrants taking jobs. David Camerons warning that Britain must say no to Eastern European workers by improving education for young people was inspired by a visit to a factory in his constituency where a quarter of new staff are foreign. Mr Cameron said on Monday that it was a cruel fact that a generation of young Britons could be left behind and fail to share in the benefits of the economic recovery because they lack the skills to secure a job. The Telegraph has learned that he made the comments after visiting a car parts factory in his constituency where he was told that young Britons have poorer numeracy than immigrants and too often just arent good enough. Barry Dodd, the chief executive of GSM Automotive in Witney, Oxfordshire said that 10 of the 40 staff his growing business has taken on in the past three years are foreign. They are predominantly Polish but also include immigrants from China, Pakistan, Lithuania and Romania. He said: The point we made to Mr Cameron is that the basic education in the UK, basic maths and so on is so poor in comparison to what we are seeing in people from other parts of the world. It just isnt good enough, we havent kept up. I would say immigrants are better at numeracy. If youve got bright people they can learn English. If youve got people who are not numerate very often its something that they find very difficult. Its harder to learn numeracy.
