I’m seriously all for security in this country especially with the rise of ISIS and other organisations, but what has just happened in Australia this week is shocking and actually pretty frightening; and a great deal of people aren’t actually aware of the significance of what just went through the Australian Senate. To put it into perspective, if you were to come across any information or actually witness the government abusing human rights, and were to either put it on Facebook, tell a journalist or simply tell your friends, you can now expect to be imprisoned for up to 10 years. Also, right now a government official can now legally invade every aspect of your privacy such as looking at your transactions, text messages, adding and removing emails, and any activity you have on the internet when necessary with next to no authorisation. We shouldn’t live in a country were the citizens and journalists wouldn’t dare report human rights abuses in the fear of imprisonment, and are more afraid of their government than actual terrorists. We don’t need terrorists to take away our freedoms, the current governments draconian policies are already doing that for you. If you think I’m sensationalising this then check the legislation out yourself
