I’ve been thinking a lot about living in the present. About not - TopicsExpress

I’ve been thinking a lot about living in the present. About not regretting the mistakes we’ve made in the past and not stressing about things that could possibly happen in the future. I think that’s really the only way to be happy. Today, I heard a great testimony that kind of echoed these thoughts, but it was something I’ve never really thought of before. She talked about how when the Israelites survived off of manna in the desert, they were only able to eat what they gathered that day. They weren’t able to save any for the next day because it would go bad. They were forced to live in the moment. I think that would stress a lot of us out, not knowing how we’d eat the next day, because we’re conditioned to constantly worry about the future. But God didn’t want the Israelites to think like that and I don’t think He wants us to either. He wanted them to trust that Hed provide for them in the moment. And He did. I worry about the future way more than I should, like a lot of you, because anxiety is what I do. How is this bill going to be paid, how are we going to afford doctor’s appointments or gas in the car or how am I going to support my out-of-control Netflix and chocolate addictions or just food at all tomorrow? I worry like crazy, which is dumb because most of it is completely outside of my control. Worrying isn’t going to solve the problem. As the rad lady, Cory Ten Boom, said, “Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow, it empties today of its strength.” Looking back, I’ve always had everything I’ve needed. Sometimes it came a little later than I’d planned or not in the exact way I’d hoped, but Heavenly Father has always taken care of me. I’m blessed far more than I deserve and I have a pretty fantastic life because of Him. I hope you all have a great Sabbath. I love you and, yes, before you say it, I know, TL;DR. However, I highly suggest reading Matthew 6:25-34 again today: 25 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? 26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? 27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? 28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: 29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? 31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? 32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. 33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. 34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
