JAMETT GARLICK OF WEST PARK PLACE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL NAMED 2014-2015 DISTRICT TEACHER OF THE YEAR Jamett Garlick, a first grade teacher at West Park Place Elementary School, got a surprise on May 16 when Superintendent Dr. Freeman Williams and West Park principal Ledonnis Hernandez made a surprise appearance in her classroom. They were there to announce that Jamett had been chosen as the Christina School District Teacher of the Year for 2014-2015! Jamett was selected from an outstanding pool of building-level Teachers of the Year by the annual District selection committee. She will represent the Christina School District as its District Teacher of the Year for the 2014-2015 school year, and will also be in the running to be named the State Teacher of the Year by the Delaware Department of Education. The State Teacher of the Year will be announced this fall. Jamett holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Delaware and a master’s degree in elementary education from Wilmington College, and attended the Harvard Graduate School of Education Data Wise Summer Institute in 2010 and 2011. She has taught in the Christina School District since 1996, and was named West Park Place Teacher of the Year in 2003 and 2013. She is a PLC Team Leader, a member of the School Improvement Team, and member of the Response to Intervention Team, and has served as a PBS Team member and Assessment Committee member. She has served as a cooperating teacher for both the University of Delaware and Wilmington College, and as a mentor teacher in the Christina School District.
