JINJA COLLEGE OLD BOYS’ ASSOCIATION P.O.BOX 211 JJA Office of the intervarsity- president Circular 2 Re: Report on the Intervarsity Executive Activities. I bring you warm regards from the Jinja College Old Boys’ Intervarsity Executive as a whole. The intervarsity executive was instituted on 15th.09.2012 in Jinja College during an old boys’ meeting and career visit to the school. The universities present were Makerere University, Kyambogo University, Makerere university business school, Uganda Christian university- Mukono, and Kampala International University. The aim was to coordinate the activities of the old boys within the universities and also liaise with the umbrella executive to formalize the association. In 2011, through an initiative by JICOBA- Kyambogo chapter, the old boys paid a career visit to the school in which the alumni gave career guidance to the students and thereafter held a meeting with the staff to share what there time was like while in Jinja College. In 2012, a similar visit was paid this time with more participants who totaled to 120 persons in number. The intervarsity executive also oversaw the opening of a MUBS chapter in march this year. The intervarsity executive has managed to draft a constitution that will be discussed during the old boys’ meeting on 15th.08.2013. Some of the things proposed in the constitution are; • the payment of a membership fee by all members • Four kinds of membership visibly full members, associate members, honorary members and supernumerary members. • the establishment of a board of trustees to manage the association assets • the inclusion of the head teacher as an ex-official to the executive • Committee members who shall be elected in such a way that the current decade and each of the past immediate decades may be represented on the Executive Committee by a member each. Also, from former discussions, there was a proposal that the alumni get an emblem which to use for identity. It was also proposed that the emblem be something that identifies the alumni with the college. Proposedly therefore, the green iguana was proposed as the potential emblem. This is the official name of the school magazine as of 2009. The intervarsity executive organized an alumni dinner that was scheduled for 16th.03.2013 at emerald hotel. However, it was later called off due to a poor response from the alumni. Also the publicity was not as expected which could have caused the poor response. Therefore, the intervarsity executive has organized an alumni meeting scheduled for 15th.08.2013 at Amazing Grace Crystal Gardens along bombo road and next to bible house starting 5:00pm. The meeting is intended to resolve the issues in the constitution consolidate a plan for the career visit and discuss any matters arising.
