JUDGES DECISION WELCOMED The decision by the Supreme Court to reject an attempt to force Britain to offer prisoners the vote in European and local elections has been welcomed by UKIP deputy leader Paul Nuttall. But Mr Nuttall, local Euro-MP, warned that it is only a temporary stay of execution. “I am delighted at the unanimous decision of the Supreme Court to reject these spurious demands to extend the franchise to prisoners. At least they are trying to uphold the settled wishes of the British public. “Unfortunately this will not be the end of the matter because those, inimical to our traditions, wishes and interests in the European Courts will not accept this judgement. “Time after time the ECHR has made clear that it wants us to capitulate in the principle, and this Government is still deliberating on how to give ground. “The Government should return to its proposed legislation and strike out moves to offer limited franchise to prisoners,” said Mr Nuttall. “Prisoners have broken their contract with society and so forfeit their voting rights,” he added. paulnuttallmep/?p=2908
