INDIEFILM REVIEW BY MATT DAVIS Using a docuflim format, Provoked combines actual news footage with a fictitious central character (Voque), implying he is collateral damage from a celebrity lifestyle impacted by media provocation. The sans-dialogue narrative provides a melancholic feel as does the choice of soundtrack; an acoustic version of Justin Biebers, Yellow Raincoat, in which the Canadian pop singer uses colorful metaphors to describe how he emotionally protects himself from everything happening around him. Provoked does not address cause and effect and I found myself wishing it did but I dont think Cunningham was necessarily trying to link the two. I believe the message here is that there is an increasingly unhealthy relationship between stars and the media and with a closing text asking us, Your Child?
