The US wants an international coalition in the fight against ISIS, and it wants everyone – we mean everyone – in the Mideast on board. Kerry didn’t invite Iran to the planning session, but said it didn’t mean the US wasn’t interested in talking. A little bit of mixed signals? Not for Iran, where officials said they’ve already rejected US calls to join the fight, and wish the US would just stop texting already. #playinghardtoget CONFUSED. Iran (the dominant Shiite power in the Mideast) has a big interest in seeing ISIS (the flashy new Sunni game in town) go down. But when it hasn’t been giving the US a stroke over its nuclear plans, Iran has spent the last few years propping up Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in the country’s civil war, and knows the US getting more involved could indirectly hurt Assad.
