Jacksonville dumps Oxford, reaches girls final By Al Muskewitz East Alabama Sports Today JACKSONVILLE -- Half the long-anticipated and presumptive matchup for the Calhoun County Girls Basketball Tournament title was set Friday when top-seeded Jacksonville dumped Oxford 64-33. The Golden Eagles await the winner of the later Anniston-Pleasant Valley game, with most anticipating second-seeded Anniston moving onto the final. The teams have played in the last four previous girls tournament finals. They have not met previously this season. Jacksonville used defense and rebounding to overcome some weak shooting for the win. Our offense was slow to start but our defense kept us in it and it was pretty consistent, Jacksonville coach Ryan Chambless said. Virginia Poe and Angel Kidd scored 15 each for Jacksonville. Sierra Stone had 17 rebounds. The Golden Eagles outscored Oxford 28-0 on points off turnovers (they forced 35) and scored 28 second-chance points off their 29 offensive rebounds (44 total).
