Jacob nets hat-trick in Europa League FC Utrecht Zambia striker Jacob Mulenga on Thursday scored a hat-trick in the UEFA Europa League second round against Luxembourg outfit Differndage 03. Mulenga’s three goals, however, were not enough to propel the Dutch side to the third round as Differndage won 5- 4 on aggregate. Utrecht lost 2-1 in Luxembourg last Thursday. Mulenga, who was also on target in the first leg, opened the goals galore in the 45th minute to cancel Differndage lead before adding his second four minutes after the break. He netted the third on 54 minutes. Differndage scored thorough Omar Rafik, Franzoni and Bastos to eliminate Utrecht from Europe’s second tier competition. Mulenga, who has attracted interest from English Championship sides Bolton Wanderers and Nottingham Forest, is expected to leave FC Utrecht this season. Meanwhile, Astra Giurgiu Zambia midfielder Fwayo Tembo played 75 minutes in an away win over Cyprus side Omonia Nicosia. Astra Giurgiu beat Omnia Nicosia 2-1 to set up a third round encounter against Trencin. Tembo scored in the 1-1 draw with Nicosia last Thursday.
