Jaguar Scoops Five Awards Jaguar was the envy of the night during the second annual Music Copyright Society of Kenya(MCSK) Awards gala held in Nairobi on Saturday when he scooped a record ?ve awards in different competitive categories. With his top hits,among them Kigeugeu, topping airplay on almost all radio and TV stations across the country, the philanthropic star also emerged the second top royalties earner on a list dominated by the new generation of musicians among them PUnit, Nonini, Madtraxx, Nameless, Collo, Wahu and Habida. Marked by pomp and colour, the all night Sh2.5 million StarTimes sponsored ceremony saw hundreds of artistes from across generations as well as other entertainment stakeholders celebrate the fusion of Art and culture as regional music giants took turns on the podium to entertain guests. “Congratulations to tonight’s winners and major contributors who have continued to appreciate the great works by our very own. Clearly, we have come a long way as an industry. This would not have been possible without increased investment and dedication. We at MCSK are therefore grateful to be part of these developments and we will continue to diligently play our role in an effort to further grow the sector,” said Maurice Okoth, the MCSK CEO. It was a night of many ?rsts that saw the unveiling of a new local content propelled station, TripleP. Good news was in abundance for local musicians as the Youth Enterprise Development Fund boss, Gor Semelang’o, announced that the fund had set aside Sh300 million for local musicians. “The offer is within the new administration’s policy to address youth unemployment and promote talent among the youth as directed by President Uhuru Kenyatta,” Gor said as he congratulated the winners.
