Jan. 30 Daily Announcements: Reminder of Jan. 30s Dress Code: **You can wear any outfit that portrays your selected holy person. However please be appropriate. We should not have to do a lot of thinking to understand how your clothing choices fit with your selected person. There is no Saint or Holy person for this day that would be portrayed in short shorts or spaghetti straps, but per Emily Bendas reminder, no spaghetti straps or short shorts. **If you are not dressed as a Saint or holy person, you will need to be in regular Dress Code. **We know that we have a lot of saints and holy people walking our halls, but DO NOT come dressed as yourself, just out of uniform. That will get you multiple detentions and you will also be violating the spirit of the day. Catholic Schools Week Dress Code Information: Friday is Columbus spirit day, show off your school colors! Columbus spirit top with Dress Code pants. Columbus hooded sweatshirts are ok. Columbus windbreakers or team jackets are ok. You must have dress code approved pants/shorts, capris. The Spring Musical is coming: Auditions for Shrek the Musical will be held Wednesday, January 29th, and Thursday, January 30th. Additional information and audition times are available at the bulletin board by the music entrance or with Miss Keber. Calling all musicians! We are looking for a rock band for Shrek! All Students interested in possibly participating in the Pit Orchestra for the musical should email Miss Sadecki ([email protected]) with the instrument they would like to possibly play. Participation in AP Euro will not exclude you from the pit The AP Euro class is planning a ceremony to honor all veterans this April. If you have a friend or relative who has served in the military and would like to invite them to this event, please send their name and address to Emily Benda [email protected] by Friday, January 31. Columbus Dance Team on Iowa Public Television: The Columbus Dance Team will be on IPTV this Saturday, February 1st at 8pm performing their State Champion routines. We do not know the exact time that Columbus will be on, so set your recording devices. Close Up Trip Mandatory Meeting: Juniors Attending Close Up: There is a mandatory meeting next Tuesday, February 4th at 7PM in the Room 176. An e-mail was sent out to you and your parents/guardians regarding the meeting. ACT Prep: **Anyone interested in Mr. Wills famous ACT prep class next week should visit with Mr. Will for details. CAMPUS MINISTRY: Hey Juniors! Want to do the latest new thing at Columbus? This spring, Columbus will hold a new junior retreat called Kairos. It is a fun-filled weekend with good food, fun games, and great talks with only people from Columbus. Students at Catholic high schools in the Midwest – specifically the Chicagoland area have loved this four day retreat. Columbus’ first Kairos will be held the weekend of March 6th - March 9th. It will only be with other Columbus students and staff and retreat is student led! If you have questions about the retreat, ask the retreat team: Emily Benda, Eric Budde, Sami Graff, Gabby Greco, Lindsay McManus or Zach Ward. You can also find out more information from Mr. Larsen. GUIDANCE OFFICE: Guidance Office: For College Rep visits, get a pass from the Guidance Office: Requesting Classes for 2014/15: All freshman, sophomores, and juniors need to turn in their course requests to the guidance office by January 31. If you would like to meet with Mrs. Stainbrook or Mrs. Ney regarding your courses for next year, please contact them for an appointment. Remember that you need to have teacher approval and parent approval for your course choices. Scholarship Info: **Iowa PGA Section Charlie Burkart Scholarship - This is a $1,000 scholarship, renewable each year for a total of $4,000. Scholarship winners are selected on the basis of their interest and activity in golf and the potential for future contributions to the game, then on their academic ability and financial need. Deadline to apply is June 13, 2014. **The Waterloo Center for the Arts and the Friends of the Art Center are now accepting applications for the Raymond T. Forsberg and Marilyn S. Hurley Memorial Scholarship (each in the amount of $1,000), and the Preceptor Beta Lambda Scholarship (in the amount of $500) for Visual Arts. To be eligible for these tuition scholarships, applicants must currently be a graduating senior who desires to pursue a post-secondary degree in visual arts. Applications are in the guidance office or online at waterloocenterforthearts.org. Applications and application materials are due to the Waterloo Center for the Arts no later than Friday, April 11, 2014 at 5:00pm. **Leo H Grether Memorial Scholarship in Choral Music Education - This is a $2,500 award in honor of Leo & Ruth Grether, by their three sons. Candidates Must: Be a citizen of the state of Iowa; Be a graduating senior; Submit a tape containing two selections of a contrasting Nature; Submit a listing of school music participation and accomplishments; Provide a letter listing music incolvement in church and/or community cosigned by the pastor or civic leader; Submit a one-page essay entitled, Why I have chosen choral music education as a Career. Application materials must be submitted to Iowa High School Music Association (P.O. Box 10, Boone, IA 50036-0010) by April 15, 2014. **Winter Dance Party Scholarship - Commemorating the life and contributions of J.P. (Big Bopper) Richardson, Ritchie Valens, Buddy Holly, Roger Peterson, and Darrel Hein. Candidates Must: Be enrolling in a college as a music major; Be a graduating senior of an Iowa high school; Submit documentation of cumulative GPA; Submit a one-page essay entitled: Why I have chosen to major in music. Application materials must be received by April 15, 2014 to : Iowa High School Music Association, P.O. Box 10, Boone, IA 50036. Athletics: **Any girl that is interested in going out for softball but was unable to attend last weeks informational meeting is encouraged to stop by the office to get Coach Olmsteads contact information so that he may be in contact with you & your family as soon as possible. Softball players are also reminded that winter workouts begin this Sunday, February 2nd from 4-6pm in the MPR.
