Jane Elliot, who developed the blue-eyed/brown-eyed exercise in order to demonstrate the deeply insidious character of racism in social contexts continues her outstanding work in this video…where she definitively demonstrates the non-transitive character of race discrimination compared to gender or other forms of (hidden) identity discrimination. In discrimination…one form or one kind of suffering cannot and does not explain or clarify another…when confronted with the reality of how racism insinuates its ugliness in social interactions….some people..those who have accepted social choice about whether they will or will not indulge in racist acts…simply cannot take the pressure of real discriminatory behaviors….while others are forced to live with this horror..and in fact…can never get away from it…and therefore must either develop adequate coping mechanisms..or suffer interminably…Elliots work is ground-breaking…
