January 19, 2015 Huge Flow Upslope The new distal tip of the current lava flow above the police/fire stations not moving. We observed one small surface flow within the flow field, but nothing at the margins, and it has apparently moved very little since yesterday. The northern lobe, which ha recently ignited brush fires near Ainaloa is still active, but very sluggish, and not moving at all at the tip. However, there are scattered breakouts upslope, notably near the area where the north lobe broke away from the main stalled flow. Surface activity near there was vigorous to say the least... the largest, fastest moving flow weve seen in about a month or more, burning the brush to the north. Other smaller activity along the margins of the north flow was noted here and there, but he north lobe has apparently not advanced since yesterday either. We were unable to visit either the geothermal pad upslope of the flow front or the Pu`u `O`o vent area and cannot report on activity there. Trade winds have apparently returned, as the plume of Pu`u `O`o was blowing strongly to the west.
