January 21, 2015 Dear GenPeace NCR Members, Warm greetings of peace as we begin a new year! Recently we have seen news about a possible resumption of peace negotiations between the Government of the Philippines (GPH) and the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP). While significant progress is ongoing with regard to the agreement on the Bangsamoro, the GPH-NDFP peace processes have stalled on various issues after just one negotiation in February 2011. Many communities in different parts of the country experience insecurity and hardship because of the continuing conflict. Listening to the cry of the people, we cannot give up on peace despite the seemingly endless setbacks along the way. We are therefore inviting you to a discussion, to help seek ways forward. How can we support the peace processes between the GPH and CPP-NPA-NDF towards negotiated political settlement? How can we build peace that can be savored by people in communities? How can we work together to transform conflict and wage peace? Waging Peace Philippines, a broad network of peace advocates supporting the peace processes in the country has convened similar discussions in Mindanao, Visayas and Luzon (with funding support from the Royal Norwegian Government). This time, we hope you can join a gathering of stakeholders from NCR and national-level CSOs : “Waging Peace Conversations - Towards Action for Peace - NCR” on January 23, 2015, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at ISO Conference Center, Ateneo de Manila University, Loyola Heights, Q.C.
