January Newsletter? You got it!! THE 3RD COAST CHRONICLE A Newsletter from your buds @ 3CC January 2015 Happy New Year! Here at 3CC we’re super-pumped for all the Cool Bike Stuff that 2015 has in store and we hope that you are as well. We’re rollin’ into our 2nd full calendar year in the big chainring and ready to rock! We hope to see you soon here at the shop for a ride, a visit or…who knows… maybe a new bike! In the meantime, sit back and let us take a few minutes of your time fillin’ you in on sorts of Sweet Cycling here along the 3rd Coast! THE BIG NEWS: THE BIG JANUARY BIKE SALE IS ON! This is SO big that we’re gonna send you a 2nd e-mail w/ the details but suffice to say that if you’re considering a new road, mtn, gravel, cross or fitness bike this may be the time! All of our remaining BMC, Bianchi, Redline, Gunnar, Seven, Wilier and Co-Motion bikes, tandems and frames are from 10-50% off! The deals are great and you’ll still get all the service, personalized fitting and attention to detail that we’re known for. Start 2015 off on the right foot w/a sweet new ride! Again – watch your Inbox for a separate Sale Flyer soon! JANUARY WEEKLY RIDE CALENDAR Our weekly rides are a huge part of what we’re about…come and ride w/ us! MON NIGHT GRAVEL, 6:30p This ride is officially going on hiatus for the month of January. We’ll announce on FaceBook over the weekend if we’re gonna do it on a week-to-week basis but otherwise it’ll be back in Feb or March! TUES NIGHT “SUFFERFEST”, 6:30p As Michigan’s only Certified Sufferfest Training Center we’re pleased to offer you a great chance to get some serious Indoor Training this winter! You’ll need your bike and trainer, we’ll supply the company, Sufferfest video, fans and pain! Extra Bonus – Kaat leads a short-but-helpful session of yoga-inspired stretches afterwards. (Subject to her schedule, ‘natch) We have room to store your trainer here if that makes things easier for you. (We have a limited # of loaner trainers – contact us to make sure if you wanna try one) FRIDAY FLAPJACK RIDE, 8:00a This is our sole year ‘round road ride and we do reserve the right to make the smart call and cancel it if the roads are just too messy. Watch FaceBook! (It goes 90+% of the time though.) 20-25 miles and afterwards we fire up the griddle for some breakfast! SATURDAY “SUFFERFEST”, 8:00a Just like Tuesday Night…’cept Sat morning! As per usual keep an eye on the shop FaceBook Page as we’ll post updates, added rides etc there. Also watch the “Shut Up & Ride Club” page for more great rides w/ great folks! AND SPEAKIN’ OF “RIDING INSIDE”… We stand ready to help you chose the ideal trainer to help you achieve your winter-training goals. We offer a selection of CycleOps trainers and one of them is just right for you. They’re all set up here at the shop so you can “test-ride” ‘em and we can also advise you on rollers or other options. The 3CC folks have more hours on various trainers than they’re even comfortable contemplating so we can help! Indoor training is extremely effective and time-efficient, not to mention safe and warm! OR – RIDE OUTSIDE! It can be done y’know! We do it all winter and you can too. Fat bikes, mountainbikes and ‘cross/gravel bikes can all be set up to rock the cold, snow and ice and – surprise! – we can help. We have studded tires, fenders, lights and everything else to make your bike a Winter Warrior and can also equip your body from head to toe w/ cold-weather gear we’ve tested in sub-zero conditions and can vouch for. Jackets, tights, base layers, socks, winter riding shoes, helmets, gloves, balaclavas and caps… if you’re gonna want/need it to stay warm we have it! HEY! NOW THAT WE’RE TALKING ABOUT FAT BIKES… Since (as of this writing at least) Winter has returned w/ a vengeance we’re spending approx. 79.975843735% of our time here at the shop talkin’ Fat Bikes! If you’re still not hip to the craze you really oughta head down here and check ‘em out because people we are here to tell you that they are a blast and more folks figure that out every week! We are proud to offer you the complete range of “Four Season” bikes from KHS (aka “The Biggest Bike Company You Never Heard Of”) and they pretty much have something for everyone. Need a solid fat bike at a price few “bike shop fat bikes” can match? The KHS 4 Season 500 is only $1000. Looking for carbon fiber hotness? The 4 Season 5000 has your name on it (And for only 3K!) In between those “bookends” are the uber-popular 4 Season 1000 ($1300) and the 5” tire equipped 4 Season 3000 (2K). As you’ll read shortly there are a TON of sweet fat bike events comin’ up but you’re gonna need a bike to enjoy ‘em. We have your fat bike – that’s all we’re sayin’. Our FAT BIKE DEMO FLEET is getting’ lotsa use these days and that’s cool w/ us! You really need to experience one o’ these Bad Boys to really “get it” and we’ll make that easy on ya! Simply call or stop in – there’s no charge and its first come first served! WEEKLY FAT BIKE EVENTS! Various local trails and promoters are workin’ hard to make it hard for you to decide where/when to ride your fattie. Check these out: FAT TUESDAYS @ PANDO SPORTS PARK (Belding) Every Tuesday evening through 2/25. $10 gets you a trail pass from 5-8pm and the option of a training race at 6:30. You’ll need a helmet and lights are highly recommended. (More info @ www . funpromotions . com) WEDNESDAY NIGHT GROUP RIDE Indian Trails Golf Course (GR), 6:00-10:00 – The trails will be groomed (4.5 miles worth) and the fireplace blazing! The clubhouse will be open for snacks or to warm your toes. No charge but a donation towards the cost of the grooming program is suggested. (For more info - “Wednesday Night Group Ride” on FB) THURSDAY THROWDOWN Koetsier’s Greenhouse (GR). Unique Fat Bike TT series through January. 4:00-8:00pm. $20 day of, $15 pre-reg, $10 per race season pass. Lights required. THE 2015 JDRF RIDE TO CURE SEASON IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER KICK-OFF PARTY 1/17! Wanna change the world while riding your bike in cool places? Come to the West Mi JDRF Team’s Annual Kick-Off Party and get the scoop, meet fellow riders / coaches and be prepared for when Registration opens on 1/21! “JDRF” is the “Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation” and 3CC is proud to sponsor this more-than-worthy project. Sign up for one (or more!) of their 2015 Ride to Cure events and ride your bike along the coast of Lake Champlain in VT, alongside the Mississippi River in WI, MN and IA, around Lake Tahoe, on the Natchez Trace in TN, over the Blue Ridge Mtns in SC, through Death Valley or the Sonoran Desert around Tucson AZ…all while helping to find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes – and having a BLAST! The UCC is a 24 Hour Team Indoor Relay Ride to support the Livestrong Foundation. This is the 10th year for this great event and we’d love to have you on our team. Date: Feb 20-21 8pm-8pm Place: Ridge Point Church, Holland Mi Riders will sign up for 1 hour “pulls” on a trainer (supplied) while being entertained by live bands and videos. Snacks are provided, you’ll get a cool tee shirt and the chance to win some cool prizes – all while knowing that you’re helping fight cancer!
